This module will provide a review of key topics including the DFO ethos and the distinction between skeletal and dental imbalances with guided explanation, case studies and photos. You will need this refresher as there is a steep learning curve before you move on to the next phase. We look at the goals we want to achieve during the orthopaedic stage of treating patients in the mixed dentition prior to the straight wire finishing in the permanent dentition.

This module highlights the Delta Force Bracket system, which incorporates a design that allows the DFO practitioner the ability to control the friction between the archwire, bracket and elastic ligature. By varying the ligature placement, the dentist has more control over the method of sliding mechanics, which will be fully explained throughout the module part sections a through g.

This module will provide you with the principles of the straightwire technique in conjunction with DFO, so clinicians can readily understand when to use straightwire with appliances and how to finalise the occlusion. A patient case demonstration is included in this module.
